Commission of Inquiry commences with call for evidence

The Commission of Inquiry into the closure of the Barrett Adolescent Centre (BAC) commenced today and called for evidence within its terms of reference.
The Commission of Inquiry has been established to inquire into the decision to close the BAC, and other issues including transition arrangements for patients, and support for their families and BAC staff. Its full Terms of Reference are available at www.barrettinquiry.qld.gov.au.
The Commission will today call for information within its Terms of Reference through a notice on its website and advertisements in statewide and regional newspapers.
The Commission will hold an initial public hearing at 9.30 am on Wednesday 30 September 2015, in the Brisbane Magistrates Court building.
At this hearing the Commissioner Margaret Wilson QC will provide further information about the Inquiry and its public sittings, and hear applications for leave to appear before the Inquiry or to be legally represented.
Mr Paul Freeburn QC and Ms Catherine Muir have been appointed Counsel Assisting the Inquiry.
Under the Terms of Reference, the Commissioner is required to report to the Premier by 14 January 2016.
